Thigh High for Fall…

thigh1

Now, when most people hear thigh high boots, classy is most likely not the first thing that comes to mind.  And granted, that is a legitimate thing because often they can look trashy.  However, this fall is redeeming the image of thigh high boots.  The height can be done in a way that still is sexy, but also kept classy.  I mean, if Celine and Chanel are willing to send looks down their runways with thigh highs, there clearly is a way to do them right.  I love the way they add a sleekness to a woman’s leg.  There are far more options in heeled boots, but there are some flat ones as well that are stunning.  I would love to add a black pair to my boot collection and then style them with a black nylon underneath so the small portion of my leg that would show would still be slightly covered.  It adds a dramatic feel to the look in a subtle way.

How do you feel about thigh high boots?  Will you be embracing the trend this fall?  What color would you want?

Pretty in Prints…

This spring, and even as we hed into summer, has a fun feel that is stirring up joy and bringing out the whimsical girl in all of us.  How is that happening in our style?!  Well, by not being afraid of prints.  From simple polka-dots, blooming florals, to as crazy as you can imagine woman everywhere are wearing prints and looking pretty.  It’s not really the prints that make them look happy, the smiles that you see accompanying the prints make everyone look pretty.

Are you feeling pretty in prints?

Much love,

The Little Black Jacket…

I love all things Chanel.  That is not news here.  That is why I am loving The Little Black Jacket project Karl Langerfeld has produced in collaboration with Carine Roitfeld.  They have revisited Chanel’s the timeless classic jacket.  The project features fashion icons of all sorts styling the classic their way.  Two of my favorite ladies are featured – Anna Wintour and Sarah Jessica Parker.  They never fail to look stunning in my book.

How would you style the timeless classic black jacket?

Much love,

Jet Set Couture…

I love this time of year for fashion. Couture shows.  Naturally, my favorite to see every year is Chanel.  This year, Chanel was over the red carpet, so the blue carpet was rolled out.  Karl Lagerfeld was inspired by air travel and stewardess uniforms for Chanel’s Spring 2012 Haute Couture collection .  What an amazing collection – taking us on a jet set trip by transforming The Grand Palais.  The cool colors with subtle sparkle is breath taking – so chic.

Have you been watching any of the Haute Couture shows?  What have been some of your favorites?

Much love,

Tweed Dream…

It is that time of year where it gets to bitter cold in Minneapolis, including my office.  So, that means changing up the textures is very key.  The look needs to be warm, but not leave one looking like a marshmallow – sounds ridiculous, but it is not as easy as one would assume.  Tweed is the perfect solution to this predicament.  It is classy, chic, and still fashion forward – and extremely warm.  I will forever love Chanel, so that may also have something to do with my obsession with tweed, but whatever it is, it works.

How do you feel about tweed? How do you stay warm when it takes a turn for the bitter cold?

Much love,

Five Loves…

A good suit coat, fedora and all around look inspired by menswear done with a feminine twist.  Have been loving this trend all fall long.

A sweet little kitty to hold and cuddle with and remind you that you are not alone.  That would be delightful right about now, but sadly my landlord does not feel the same way.

Time alone to read, journal and drink delicious coffee is truly priceless to me.  Thankfully, I have managed to find ways to sneak in more of that beloved time.

I am not sure what it is about this bedside table, but I love it.  Well, not the actual table itself, but the way such a basic table has been transformed to look beautiful with the accessories is amazing to me.

I love all the designers that we see represented in this one stunning image.  I am especially loving this dress and it is serving as inspiration as I go look for a new dress for a wedding, which is tomorrow.

What are you loving this week, loves?  Do you get a new dress for each wedding?  How far in advance to you buy a new dress for an occasion?

Much love,

B

100 Shoes…

On Tuesday, I was over at one of my dear friend’s house for our weekly Rachel Zoe night.  We were chatting after the show about her most recent time in NYC this past weekend and the fact that my birthday was coming so soon.  So soon she decided we needed to start celebrating that moment, which meant I got to open my first birthday present for the year.  I was so excited!  A book – of shoes – from the Met – with Sarah Jessica Parker writing the introduction?!  I mean seriously, can we think of a better gift for me?!  I mean, since I already have the latest Chanel biography, which I received from another friend for Christmas last year.  It is perfect and I have been loving reading about all of these amazing shoes from history.

I love how SJP puts it, “…seeing them [shoes] in a book or museum lets us appreciate them as works of art with a place in culture and history, and also as mechanisms to elevate the style, stature, and status of women around the world.”

There are so many beautiful pairs – but I love this 1920’s pair.  Plus, I am still reading so I cannot pick out my favorite yet.  There are so many wonderful designers featured in the book.  It really is a great read, or a great coffee table book for your guests to flip through.

Do you like going to museums and reading books on the history of fashion?  What is your favorite fashion book or exhibit you have seen?

Much love,

B
