I love holiday weekends. There is something about an extended weekend that is so refreshing, I actually feel like I get time to recover. Though, this weekend has been full with volunteer work advising recruitment – but it is fun work, so totally worth it. It is crazy to think that September has started and summer is really coming to an end. Hope however you are ending the summer, it is getting to be an extended and refreshing weekend!
Who says plaid is only for the cold months. It can totally be paired with bright colors to turn that lumberjack plaid into summertime prep. Get one of the light weight plaid shirts and tuck it into your skirt, pair with a statement necklace and you have a fun fabulous look for summer. We are all wanting fall fashion, but weather is not ready to say goodbye to summer – so we adapt and make it work.
How do you make summertime prep work for your style?
The perfect song to end the summer is Neon Eyes by Saints of Valory. The hot humid nights of August are better with windows rolled down and good tunes blasting. This song has totally made my recent playlist. They are on tour right now, but sadly get close but not all the way up to Minneapolis anytime soon.
Holy buckets – apparently summer decided to show up finally. And let me tell you it is hot and sticky – basically it is a constant state of feeling like I am melting. It is certainly not the weather that inspires wanting to layer on garments. So, what does one wear when it is blistering hot?!! I love turning to flowy materials to allow for some sort of breeze and not have things clinging to your body. I also like mixing in more non-traditional pieces like a light tee-shirt with a pencil skirt to lighten the office attire.
What is your style when you feel like you are melting? Has summer hit you with a second heat wave all of a sudden?
I love this look for a cool summer night. But let’s be real, when am I not loving denim?!! It gets me every time.
Donut holes. Oh how I love when these sweet little balls of joy hit my lips. They have always been a weakness of mine, ever since I was a little girl.
I love this sweater so much and feel like I need on just like this to get me through the fall and winter. It would be perfect to to cuddle up in.
I have been obsessing over cucumber salads as of late. I have seriously been eating some sort of cucumber salad it feels like every day – but they are so good. I think it may be all the fresh locally grown cucumbers I have been getting as of late, but they a fun base from the normal greens for a salad.
I love this whole outfit. I especially love the pop of color with the scarf – it has me excited to be wearing scarves again soon.
Do you cook more in the summer with fresh produce? What is your favorite summer dish?
There is always that last piece of clothing you add on to finish off a look. As of late all I can find myself craving is to finish off every look with a classic white blazer. It looks stunning over a dress. Adds a little class and dressy-ness to a jeans and tee look. It even looks cute with little cut-offs, making them not as grunge, but more grown-up and age appropriate. Seriously, a blazer of any color can have this effect on a look, but there is something about white that I am loving as of late. Plus, we only do have a month left before Labor Day, and then the white will have to take a break for a few months.
How do you feel about the white blazer? Would you pair it with anything?
There is something about a breeze in summer that makes me think of a whimsical romance. The ease it moves a flowy skirt with and has it dancing through the air. It’s beautiful. And, it feels fabulous on those extremely hot days. I am always a fan of dresses and skirts over pants, but especially in the summer. I love that carefree spirit a light summer dress has about it.
Do you wear flowy skirts and dress that dance when you get caught in a summer breeze?
So true. I am always for the product that gives back over the designer bag – but maybe that’s just me. Though, I am learning it is not only me and that is a refreshing and hopeful thought for our world.
Seriously, every time I see this skirt I want it that much more. Damn. So cute.
How can you go wrong with red? Especially when everything else is kept natural?! Oh yea, you can’t because it is simply stunning.
Playing with patterns. I love it so much. So inspiring. And, look at those teal heels – in love.
A refreshing cocktail for a Friday afternoon. Nothing I love more at the end of a long week.
Are you a happy hour goer? What is your favorite beverage for summertime on the patios?
Summer is short in Minnesota, but it is hot here. I am all about the short skirts and shorts for the couple months we get to enjoy them. This summer has been the summer of sweet little shorts – especially floral shorts. There is something about them that I cannot seem to get enough – I mean there are just so many floral prints that each pair is different!
What are your feelings on shorts? What about printed shorts?
Do you ever find yourself going through shopping seasons where you almost buy the same thing over and over again?! I feel like recently I have been lost in a secret garden – especially when it comes to floral bottoms. I love them and cannot get enough of them. It is beginning to get a little excessive, but there are so many options that are all slightly different. And though I may be drawn to the floral bottoms the most, I certainly have found ways to include floral tops and dresses, too – I mean, I do not want any piece to feel left out…
How do you feel about all the florals? Are you lost in a secret garden, too?
