The Wild Feathers…

Now, some people may be over the guys getting together, jamming out and singing with fabulous voices and energy – but me, not so much.  In fact, I am still loving it because each group does find a way to add their own twist to it.  Plus, if they have long hair and scruff to mix with their musical talents I am all ears…especially if my ears get to be at a live music happy hour event.  The Wild Feathers are my new favorite and though sadly they will not be doing a show in Minneapolis anytime soon, they are doing a guest appearance at a Sun Soaker Thursday put on by Cities 97 on June 27th.  Naturally, my girlfriends and I have turned this in to a full on event – it will be fabulous to have a mid-week catch up on the lake (hopefully with sun) and great live music.  These guys have such a great sound, especially to rock out to on a hot summer afternoon!  These American boys, who have been playing together since August 2010, bring together the best of rock, country, folk, and blues to make a sound of their own.  So, if you are in the area, feel free to come join us at Maynard’s on June 27th – we will be there rain or shine!

How do you get your fix of live outdoor music in during the summer?

Much love,

B

Chvrches…

I am loving this electronic pop band, Chvrches.  This song is called The Mother We Share and is one of their 2012 singles.  Earlier this year, in March, they released their EP Recover and are planning on releasing a LP later this year.  They are coming to Minneapolis this weekend and playing the Fine Line, with tickets still available I might add.  I am actually planning on buying my ticket at the door, unless I can make it to the Electric Fetus sooner to avoid annoying ticket fees.  Live music is always fabulous in my book, but I think this band will especially put on a great show.  Plus, I love the lead singer – she is so cute and has amazing eye make-up.  I highly recommend checking them out, and if you get a chance go to the show because tickets are totally affordable.  If you listen to any of their live recordings, like the one above, you will be able to see that they truly are talented.

Do you ever go to shows where you do not know the band super well?  Whose the best band or artist you ever discovered this way?

Much love,

B

Caught In a Life…

having friends that have good taste in music is pretty much a must in my life.  Not every single one of my friends I can sit around and talk music with, but the ones I can I seriously am so thankful for.  They open me up to new artists and groups all the time that I wouldn’t have found on my own – and then I get to share my findings with them.  It is a beautiful, beautiful thing.  That is what happened with (please disregard the band name) Donkeyboy.  I am loving their album Caught In a Life, especially this first track off the album, Stereolife.  This is a little taste of Danish pop that is all the rave in Norway - they are up for some great awards, and I can see why – they mixing of these beats is fabulous.

How do you experience and discover new music?

Much love,

B

Stompa…

I absolutely love this song.  Every time I hear it come on the radio I turn it up nice and loud and make sure to have the windows rolled down (well, at least when I am in my car – at the office when it comes on the excitement is a little more contained).  This pretty little lady is named Serena Ryder.  She is beautiful and all around amazing.  This song, Stompa, has an irresistible beat, boisterous emotions and bursts of scant singing – it is all around fabulous.  She is the winner of the Juno Best New Artist honors – and the more I listen to her, I totally understand why.  The gal has got a gift!

What music has you rolling down your windows and singing along at the top of your lungs?

Much love,

B

Nothing I Can Do…

This stunning duo is from down under.  I cannot get enough of Joseph & Maia.  They have such a great sound.  They currently have an EP out, but hopefully they will release more sound.  And I really hope they will fly to this side of the world so I can get the chance to see them live – because I think they would put on an amazing show!  Go check them out at their website or Facebook to hear more by them.  At least listen to Nothing I Can Do – you will not be disappointed.

Do you like their sound?  What else are you liking as of late?

Much love,

B

Simple Minds…

Well my fellow music lovers, today’s little look into what is currently being blasted from my stereo with windows rolled down is a classic instead of something new.  I am not sure why, but I have been on this crazy Breakfast Club kick the last few months, it may have something to do with my equal obsession with Pitch Perfect, but either way I love this song!  Simple Minds’ Don’t You Forget About Me – such a classic.  How can you not love it?!  So turn it up, sing along and let your body move – trust me, you’ll have fun and feel better afterwards.

What are some classics that you are still loving years later?  Please do share, maybe I can get a whole playlist going?!!

Much love,

B

Mexico…

The other night I was driving home at dusk with my windows rolled down enjoying the warmth that has finally graced this fabulous city known as Minneapolis, listening to The Current.  On comes the most beautiful song, Mexico.  As soon as I got home I looked out this band I had never heard of – The Staves.  They are amazing – just listen to this song, it is perfect for a summer night drive.  It floats perfectly and paints a romantic picture of a summer night.  They are currently touring over in the UK, but I have them on my watch list for when they tour the States because they are a must see in my book.

What do you listen to on a warm night drive?

Much love,

B

Keep Your Head Up…

I love a song that creates a warm feeling, like it should be listened to with sun shinning and windows rolled down.  The song Keep Your Head Up by Ben Howard does exactly that.  Plus, it is one of those songs that gives your soul a little boost – those are also some of my favorite songs as of late.  This English singer-songwriter has a gift – his voice has a way of drawing you in, can’t seem to get enough of it.

What songs are warming up your spirits for spring as of late?

Much love,

B

Wish I was There {Coachella}…

c1

As a lover of music, especially live music, art and fashion, it is only natural to find myself daydreaming of being at Coachella, right?!!  I love the free spirit that this amazing festival seems to draw out of everyone.  The bohemian style that covers the grounds is beautiful.  Each person has his or her own look that comes together to create an amazing art piece at this one festival.  It is beautiful.  At least, from what the pictures can show.  I seriously need to start saving and planning so I can go next year.  I know whoever is playing I will enjoy, since the music that is also played at Coachella is totally my style.  I mean look at this year’s lineup – freaking amazing.  Now, join me in my daydream and look at some of these lovies…

The Great Divide…

Okay, you could say that I am somewhat of a music junkie.  You want to go see a show?  I am your go to girl so you are not alone.  Lucky for me, I live in a city that is full of all sorts of other music junkies and so there are always amazing shows happening here.  Last Saturday, I went to see Family of the Year and The Mowgli’s.  This was my second time getting to see Family of the Year, but my first time with The Mowgli’s.  I seriously fell in love during the show.  They were amazing performers, but more than that they were beautiful souls.  I could not get over their way of life – as it was so yogic.  It certainly was one of the best times I have ever had at a show and I got to share it with my bestie, so it couldn’t have been any better…oh, it could actually.  I also got to sing vocals on their song San Francisco, which totally caught me off guard, but I loved every moment of it (I totally wish I was a traveling musician getting to share beautiful music with other lovies).  Seriously, check this band out – and not just their music, but also their way of life.  Believe in love.  It is not dead.  So, go share it with others to help make this world a little bit better by one random act of kindness at a time.

What band or bands do you love and also love what they stand for?

Much love,

B
