Where Dreams are Made of…

Out walking the streets that feel alive today in NYC and loving every moment of it.  It is one of my favorite places in the whole entire world – and with that I am back to enjoy my little vacay.  Hope you are having a great weekend!

Any fun plans this weekend?

Much love,

B

Confession…

So true.  Couldn’t have said it better myself.  Found it fitting since today I am in the city with the most single people, and so I know I am not alone in this feeling.

Have a fabulous night, loves!  Any fun plans? I’m off to keep enjoying NYC!

Much love,

B

Five Loves…

One of my first stops this weekend will certainly be to Magnolia Bakery to have my very own Carrie Bradshaw moment with my favorite cupcake in the whole entire world.  It is one of my musts on every trip to the city.

A stroll on the High Line.  I cannot wait to enjoy this lovely spot (well stretch of spots) along the west side on Manhattan.  It is one of my favorite places in the city – day or night.

The street style of NYC is always one of my favorite things to enjoy about the city.  It is as if there are no rules and everyone feels free to express themselves.  Love that.

What a great view of the city.  And yes, I will be doing yoga in random places in the city I am sure.

And what trip to the city would not be complete without a little trip to Bendel’s?!  So excited to visit one of my all time favorite stores.  It’s a fashionista’s heaven on earth.

What are your favorite places in NYC?

Much love,

B

Time to Fly Away…

In a few short hours, I will pack up at the office and head out for a long weekend.  I could not be more excited.  I need a break.  It is time to fly away for a bit.  And what a better place to fly to than my first love (at least when we are talking city love) – NYC.  I will be stopping at home to change out of my business slacks and into a more casual look, but still chic.  Skinnies and boots are basically my staple items for flying because they are comfortable, yet still easy enough to run through the airport if needed – which let’s be honest, is often needed.  And then, pair a blazer with it – perfect because you have the pockets you need, works as a jacket to fight off the brutal AC that takes over a plane no matter the temp outside, but not too bulky that you feel like you are going to hit everyone when walking down the aisle.

What is your go-to travel outfit?  Any fun trips coming up?

Much love,

B

A Life in Fashion…

Today marks the start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week – New York.  It really is a holiday.  Gets women from around the world together in their finest – even in the cold, though it has been a little warmer this year.  Fashionistas from around the world fly in, and those that cannot, like myself, watch to see what will grace the runways from their lovely home computers.  However, the fashion we love to see is not limited to the runways – the street fashion during Fashion Week is always stunning and inspirational.  Oh, this time of year just makes me so giddy.

Have you ever been to a fashion week?  Would you want to go – or are you fine with enjoying from your home?

Much love,

B

PS.  And since it is the season of love and fashion, my friend Dawn over at The Alternative Wife is having a fabulous giveaway – so head over there and enter!  I am really hoping I win, but thought I should share the joy with you, my loves!

Resolved…

Well, loves, 2012 is here.  A new year.  A new beginning.  How will you make it better than the last?  I am not really a fan of resolutions.  However, I do think it is a good idea to set goals to keep you moving forward in life, growing, not being stagnant.  I am still in my own personal planning stage for goal setting, but one thing that is very clear to me is that I do not want the fear of the unknown to keep me from trying something.  I want to be open to new things – including open to my way of thinking being challenged – not losing who I am, but allowing myself opportunity to grow.  The clearest goal I currently have is to move in July (the current lease ends in June) – now, the question is does that mean move across the city to the North Loop or across the country to New York?!  Those details I am walking forward in trying to work out and figure out – but at least I got the needing to move part nailed down!  Now, I just need to make sure it happens.

So bring it on…

Do you make resolutions with the new year?  How do you make sure you follow through with them?  What are your goals or resolutions for 2012?

Much love,

B

We Are Young…

I have loved the band Fun. since the first time I saw them live back in 2010.  I, along with all the other fans, have anxiously been awaiting a sophomore album.  Thankfully, it will be out this February and they are touring again, too!  If you are in Minneapolis, the show is April 13th at The Varsity.  Cannot wait for the show.  This is the acoustic version of the song We are Young, which I adore.  You may have heard the song covered on Glee if you watch that show -and they did a good job with the song, but Fun. does it best.

Are you going to any good shows anytime soon?

Much love,

B

Before I Die…

Before I Die is one of my new favorite blogs.  It is so simple, but so fun – and gives you some great ideas to add to your bucket list.

What is on the top of your bucket list?  Getting anything crossed off the list this weekend?

Much love,

B

Take a Break & Live…

The other night,  my yogi friends had a belated birthday party for me after class.  As I was walking back to my car with my best yogi friend, she decided to give me some advice (she is older and wiser than me by 15 years).  She said, “Don’t be so serious – be irresponsible and go do something crazy.  It is far easier to go now at your age than it is at mine – so go and live where you want!”  We then dialogued back in forth about this, as it is not every day as a 26 year old you are told to be irresponsible.  So, what exactly does that look like for a gal who has a great job, yet at the same time has wanted to get out of MN, well pretty much her whole life?!  It does not mean I pack everything up tomorrow and move to Bali (though, I would be lying if I said the thought had never crossed my mind).  I think it means – I need to take risks.  I do need to move (again, not tomorrow, but come up with a real plan and move forward with it).  I need to pursue my dreams.  Money is great, but it does not equate happiness.  And why not try to get a job in a city I love and have wanted to be in for so long?!  Worst case scenario – I hate it and move back, or try out a different city.  The point is – I am young, unattached and love fashion – so why not go to the place that brings all those things together in one – NYC.  Am I any different than any other young person that moves to the city, not really – but who really cares – it would at least be doing something a little risky and living.

Now, the real question I have to address is the when (because again, I am not making a rash decision right now to walk away from everything in MN – don’t want any crazy rumors to start…).  So…still working on that, but if you have any advice or ideas for me – I welcome them, greatly.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to share this, but I think it is good to let you all get to see a deeper side of me from time to time.  Plus, when I read this quote by Casey Wiegand, of The Wiegands, I was so moved to write, I figured – why not put it on the blog!  “So maybe the trick is to let ourselves have a break…then in a moment we don’t expect it, we will be re.inspired. A fresh tube of paint, feet hitting the pavement on an evening run, the first snow of winter, a great song on the radio with the windows down, a late night sitting on the kitchen floor talking with your husband [or for me roommate] about dreams.”

So, maybe I need to take a break or maybe I need to really figure out a practical plan (and at the same time be open to that plan getting changed, because let’s be honest – it will, and I may even like the unexpected more…) to not play it so safe anymore.  I do not need to go be completely irresponsible, but I do not have to stay so serious at the same time.  Let’s call it the unconventional approach to living life with passion.

How about you, do you play it safe?  Or do you take the risks and do the more unconventional thing?

Much love,

B
