Mad for Mad Men…

Now, when Mad Men first came on the air I did not watch it.  In fact, it wasn’t until about a year ago that I finally broke down and watched the pilot.  Well, after that first episode I already found myself loving some characters and hating others – naturally I had to keep watching.  Over the seasons, I have loved getting to know these characters more, though it certainly has come with multiple points of frustration at their ridiculous choices or portrayals of women.  Though, you see these different women in their different life stages all struggling to find themselves, growing and slowly but surely changing their fates in a time when it had always been a man’s man world.  Another reason I love this show is the style – especially the ladies.  They have amazing wardrobes, and I am sure season 6 is not going to be a let down in that realm.  From all the preview shots and the season premiere last night, it certainly is not a let down.  The 60′s were an interesting time with so much change happening – no wonder we are fascinated with their world.

Boxy & Sheer…

 

With New York Fashion Week full underway, there are all sorts of fabulous looks coming down the runways.  One of the clear trends coming down the runways is boxy and sheer.  It looks so comfortable and has me longing for warm weather.  These looks would flow so beautifully in the warm summer breezes.  I love sheer.  I especially love how designer, Maryam Nassir Zadeh does sheer and boxy.  Victoria Beckman’s collection for Fall/Winter is also right on with this trend – love it.

Heartbreaker…

I am loving The Walkmen’s new album Heaven.  It is so good – so dynamic and bigger than anything they have done before.  I especially love this song, Heartbreaker, it is more upbeat and so catchy.  I seriously have been playing it on repeat.

What do you think of The Walkmen?  Do you usually like what bands first come out with, or do you appreciate them as they develop more as artists?

Into the Wild…

You know those artists that simply captivate you with their voice?!  Yea, I have a thing for them, which is probably why I love LP so much.  This fun curly haired New York native who now resides in LA has a gift and when you add the ukele in her hands – I mean, she is stunning.  She also is hard to define when it comes to her style of music, which is what has me loving her so much more.  There is life and soul to her music. And here, in her song Into the Wild, she has me craving to skip town and go on an adventure…to Bali would be my choice.

Bendel’s is Coming to Town…

That is right, loves, you heard right.  The iconic Henri Bendel of New York City is opening an accessory store in the glamourous south wing of the Mall of America, better known as MOA.  It is one of the fabulous perks to living in Minneapolis – the largest mall right in your back yard.  Now, it is not always the mall I go to, though it is the closest to me currently and I know where to park to get in and out quick (and yes, it is doable)…and now I have an even better reason to go.  My favorite store is coming to me – this is simply amazing!  To be completely candid, when I read the article I teared up a bit with excitement…it is the simple things in life, I guess.  I was so excited I ran to tell a dear friend at the office and she was excited for me in one breath and then said, “This may end up being very dangerous…” and then we both laughed but knew she could be right.  So, in order to keep my love for all things brown and white stripped, I will have to limit myself, but you best believe I will be frequenting this lovely store to take in the beauty.  Henri Bendel.  Accessories.  Makes for a happy girl (I should really say #happygirl to use my current favorite hashtag on Twitter).

Five Loves…

Fun, flirty, neon pink dress – I am in love and would love to wear to one of the many weddings coming up.

Tulips in every color add a beautiful smile to my face.  Nature coming back to life is beautiful.

Huge community of yogis doing yoga in Time Square – I need to be apart of this one day.

And after I would kick it on the street like this.  I love NYC.

Fresh lilacs to bring some of the beautiful spring time smell inside the home.

Five Loves…

With all the wet cold spring weather, all I can think about is getting a cute pair of Hunter rain boots to go with my new Bendel umbrella.  I adore them.  I am thinking red, to match my red handle.

With the rain comes fresh flowers.  I loved walking down the streets of NYC and seeing all the beautiful fresh flowers – spring is here, my loves.

Sometimes the Olsen’s just get it right.  This is one of those moments.  Love.

Simple.  Sheer.  Sparkly.  Three “s” you put together to spell stunning in my book.

With spring in full swing, it is time to bust out the bike and start enjoying the streets in more freedom.  Sadly, my bike was stolen, so first I need to get a new bike and then I can get back to enjoying – which is greatly enjoying in Minneapolis, as we are the number one biking city.

Tales of Simplicity…

With all the hustle and bustle of NYC, there is still a simplicity that is often found in the city.  The lady in a simple silhouette radiates chicness.  Simple.  Yet still, simply stunning. I love taking a classic pair of my favorite jeans and pairing a simple t-shirt and throwing a blazer over.  A very easy go-to look, that is still put together and has you running out the door looking fabulous for a day of running around town.  There are so many tales of where you will go in this fabulous look…

Let it Rain…

Spring is in full affect.  Translation – rain is pouring down.  I actaully really love rain from time to time.  The smell.  The way it leaves everything looking clean and fresh.  Seriously, my yard was brown and now is looking rather green.  The part that does not love the rain – my hair.  So, what is a girl to do?!  A good umbrella always helps – and it adds a fun accessory to your look.  I love umbrellas – you can go with a more classic look, or hey why not have a little fun and play with a crazy pattern.  While I was in NYC I was on the hunt for a new one – Bendel’s was my first stop, because after all, I am a Bendel’s girl.  Those classic brown and white strips get me every time.
