Happy Halloween…

Happy Halloween, loves!  The sense of the holiday truly has changed since we were little boys and girls, but it can still be fun even if we are not gorging out over pillow sacks of candy.  What a weekend of seeing all sorts of costumes.  Some were fun and funny, some creative, and well there are always the slutty that I wish would really not come out.  I love the avant garde zombie bride look – it is an excuse to wear a chic gown that I never really have an excuse to wear.  I mean, these women look like the most gorgeous zombies I have ever seen in my life.

 

What did you do for Halloween?  Are you doing anything tonight? I am going to Spooky Sculpt tomorrow (aka yoga in costume…still trying to figure out my exact costume – if you have ideas, please do share!).

Just a Thought…

A Day to B…

I cannot remember the last time I went and took a day to camp out at a coffee shop and read and get some quality introvert time, but that is all changing today (per strict instructions from some of my friends that seem to care for me better than I do for myself).  I am so excited to take a day to sit, not work on work, and get to be at one of my favorite places in Minneapolis – Spyhouse (now the question, is which location…both have compelling reasons…).  It is my very own mini staycation and I couldn’t be more thrilled.  Then, this evening I will meet up with friends for the annual bonfire (we are talking massive bonfire…don’t worry, we drive out of town for this), so I am not going to be a complete hermit all day.  On that note, though, I best be off!

Five Loves…

Everything about the layers and the hat screams cozy fall day to me, which I am in need of.

A small skull ring to help get me in the mood for Halloween.

One of the old roommates is moving out some of her furniture this weekend, giving me the perfect chance to make the space a little bit more me.  I love rearranging and redecorating spaces.  This image is stunning and I would love my space to be inspired by this…now if only I could get some exposed brick in my house…

Fresh flowers are always one of my favorites.  This week I was lucky enough to be given some beautiful green roses from a friend to give me some comfort after a rough day – how sweet is she?!

Tromping around in heels listening to the leaves crunch beneath you.  Such a lovely noise as the brisk fall air blows upon you.  Love autumn days like that.  And well, those shoes, we all know they are my weakness.

Anywhere but Here…

Do you ever feel like you are having one of those days, weeks, or months (okay..sorry about the sounding like I am singing the theme song to Friends) where you just want to hit the pause button on life?  Or take a break from everything and go somewhere…really go anywhere that is not your current here?!  Yea, you are not alone my friends.  The last week (or maybe month…) has been like that – not in a constant state, but it is weighing on me.  It is time for a vacation.  Time for some own self planning to get this show on the road (both figuratively and literally).  I would love to be able to wake up on a Thursday morning and throw on a casual look – not every Thursday, but on this Thursday I sure did – nonetheless I put on my slacks and sweater with heels and head into the office.  Office fashion can be fun, but it feels so limiting and restricting sometimes.

Life by no means is falling apart – it just has felt heavier as of late.  Maybe it is the whole season changing and the carefreeness of summer is long gone and more of reality is setting in for others?!  I am not sure – all I know is, a little breather would be great right about now.  Students always get a fall break, why can’t office people get a mandatory fall break?!  Now that would be a great idea.

What do you do when you need a break from your here, but don’t really have time for a getaway?  How do you keep your work fashion interesting and fun?  Where would you go if you could go anywhere?

Tigers…

The other day a good friend told me to check out this song, Tigers, by The Submarines.  He said, “It’s The Ting Tings + MGMT.”  Right there, I knew I had to check it out and I am so glad I did.  I have been listening to it almost daily since.  It has a great bass line and her voice adds an angelic feel on top.  I am simply loving this little indie-pop duo out of LA.  They by no means are brand new, as they have five albums – so this is just a taste, but don’t let it stop there – go check out more – I know I am glad I have!

Cozy Legs…

I love wearing boots in the fall because they add a fun layer for the bottom half.  It is even more fun to add in high socks – they add that extra texture, pattern and color.  Plus, they help add some cozy warmth, which is extremely important when you live in the frozen tundra. It is certainly more of a casual look, so I do not suggest wearing it to the office every day, but I do think it could work for a casual Friday, or even pair with a skirt and tights (as long as you do not need to be in a power suit every day…).  If it won’t go over well at the office, it will be fabulous for an cozy weekend look – keeps you warm and looking chic.  Pretty much a win win – and those of you that live in the land of the tundra know, that those two elements are key and not always so easy to get in one look.

Crazy Fur Faux…

Love love love faux fur.  From a vest, wrap to a full on jacket – it is perfect to keep you warm, looking stylish and not hurt any little creatures with a face at the same time (a weakness of mine…or you may argue a strength…).  Nobody wants to carry a coat around when they are going to the mall or going out late a night – but throwing on a (faux) fur vest to add a layer that makes a statement is a great alternative.

Patterned Perfection…

Patterns are everywhere this fall.  Now, patterns are not new by any means – however we are pushing the boundaries this fall.  We are playing with the patterns and mixing them – once upon a time no-no, is now all the rave.  It takes a little extra effort to really make sure they work together – but when done well, it is so fun.  This fun look has an edge to it that can even be done in a classy way for the office – just look at these stunning looks from Wren’s Fall ’11 collection.
